Hi, I'm Rebecca Gyllenhaal.

I'm a Philadelphia-based writer and editor with ten years' experience in the publishing industry.

I’ve acquired and edited books in a wide range of categories, from horror and mystery novels to pop history, pop science, gift books, humor, guided journals, and more. I have a special passion for IP work and have developed many projects in-house, both fiction and nonfiction. There's little I relish more than diving into a thorough revision, from the big-picture outline stage to the nitty-gritty line-edit.

Books I’ve edited have garnered starred reviews in Publisher's Weekly and Library Journal, IndieNext picks, spots on the USA Today bestseller list, and coverage in the New York Times, NPR, and Esquire, to name a few. I’ve edited licensed titles for studios and brands including Disney, Marvel, Warner Bros., Nickelodeon, Paramount, the BBC, and Sony.

I am also the author or co-author of eight books in Quirk Books' Pop Classics picture book series, which have collectively sold more than one million copies.

I was raised outside Philadelphia by a pair of historians in the servants' quarters of a twentieth-century castle-turned-museum, which explains a lot about me. After a stint in sales and marketing at Jessica Kingsley Publishers, I made my way to the editorial department at Quirk Books, where I've been ever since. Currently, I live in South Philadelphia with my husband, our cat Raymond Eugene, and the passel of possums in our yard. My many interests include "trash animals," architecture, prehistory, cryptids, cults, Sichuan cuisine, Scotland, musicals, leftism, Gothic fiction and film, miniatures, and whatever the hell is going on at the bottom of the ocean.
